Questions

The following are the questions asked during the forum or in reply to the Forum announcement. Some of them were answered live, but we didn’t have time to answer them all. Regardless, all questions and answers are below. Similar questions are combined into one.

Q01. Some time ago there was a plan to create modules for various industries (construction, IT, public sector ect.) and I am guessing that is not happening. Could there be an initiative by OMIMO to maybe help experts from various industries to “meet” each other and have conversations?

The plan was to create “themes” for using P3.express in different industries. This plan became less important when OMIMO was formed with its different layers of management and potential for various modules. This was especially the case, because many of the differences might be better addressed in Layer 2 (P2.express) instead of Layer 3 (P3.express).

Regardless, the idea of having themes is not rejected, but it’s not the highest priority now. We can revisit it after all modules are created to see what the best way of addressing them is.

Q02. Creating such a rich project management ecosystem and then making it available to people for free and as open-source (libre) is a very courageous approach. Considering the capitalist system and inequalities in the world we live in, we appreciate its value even more. How did the motivation of the founders and the core team evolve? Did you decide on this path after starting the journey, or can you share a bit about its story?

Thanks. The first and most important goal was to create something people can really use and benefit from. Being libre and promoting freedoms was the approach selected from day one as well.

The main reason OMIMO was created was to help people, not to be a money generating business. Such a goal naturally opens room for other non-commercial goals such as promoting freedoms. The people involved in the core team all have successful commercial businesses independent of OMIMO to earn a living, and their involvement in OMIMO is their attempt for self actualization.

Q03. As we live and continue to live in AI era, therefore the following questions: does OMIMO has any ideas or plans to apply AI tools/AI-Assistants/AI-Agents inside or with or for P3.express?

OMIMO is all about methods and models and it doesn’t get involved in tools. Practitioners select different tools to facilitate their use of OMIMO modules. Some of those tools would be software packages, and some non-software. Some software packages would be primarily based on algorithms and some primarily based on artificial intelligence.

Q04. Is there going to be a certification program for P5.express portfolio management system?

Yes, one of our ongoing projects is to create the standard slide deck and certification program for P5.express. Our guess is that it will be done by mid-2026.

Q05. With new modules coming in, I would love to participate in “teach the teacher” seminars, where I could get an overview by an expert on how to spread this beautiful OMIMO knowledge :) question is - when and where?

We’ve started a few such programs in 2025:

All these sessions are free of charge.

Q06. OMIMO is on a great path to bridging the gap that traditional project management has inadvertently left progressively wide. Task management is indeed a significant component of project management, while the modularisation also enables users to either implements a particular module, or alongside another tool. What is OMIMO’s approach to collaborating with real users who nstart-ups who I assume would benefit not just from the openness but also in managing tasks - light weight project management

Yes, we have the mission to cover all aspects of management that are needed for the project ecosystem, including task management (P1.express) that was mentioned in the question, or team management (P2.express) that will be released in the future.

Startups need everything that larger organizations need, from portfolio management to program, project, team, and task management. However, they differ in two key areas: One is that they don’t have enough people to separate responsibilities, and they usually have one or just a few products/services, which makes it less essential to separate those layers. So, in the future, when we have all the modules, it might be an option for us to create a single package that includes everything a startup needs, matching their practical constraints.

Q07. How can I get involved with the Leader’s Behavior Compass? It aligns strongly with my “why”: bridging business and code to drive outcomes and grow teams.

We’re glad it’s interesting to you. The review period of the Leader’s Behavior Compass is over and we’re preparing its final version now. You can still submit comments, but they will be collected for the next version, which will be in a few years.

Another area where help will be needed soon, is translations. As soon as the final version is published, we’ll have an invitation for the community to start translating it to their languages. If you’re interested, that would be a great contribution as well.

Finally, for all modules, including the Compass, you can always share your related practical experiences with us and we’ll work together and publish it as a case study for everyone to use and be inspired by.

Q08. The public sector use-case is the most impressive for me here. Omimo could be the go-to for complex public sector projects. Do we have other areas of usage a part from the building or construction projects? Can you also share any use-case outside of Europe? What main challenges do you currently face implementing it in emerging markets for instance? TIt seems to me that the awareness needs further expansion

We’re aware of many different types of projects using it, everywhere in the world; from construction and IT projects to research, humanitarian, healthcare, etc. This year’s Forum presented a few large organizations such as UN High Commissioner for Refugees and Flanders Make, but it doesn’t mean that OMIMO is limited to such large organizations. There are many medium and small organizations using it as well.

Geographically, we’re aware of many projects around the world using it. Outside Europe, there are many in West Asia and Africa as well. East Asia, Oceania, and Americas are lagging behind at this moment.

Q09. In which sectors are there more P3.express users?

What’s really great is that P3.express is used is many different sectors and is by no means limited to the common industries such s construction and IT development. For example, there are many humanitarian projects that use P3.express or micro.P3.express, many doctors and nurses who use it in their hospitals, many artistic and cultural projects, etc. What’s particularly great about it is that the feedback from such a diverse community helps make the modules a lot more practical.

Q10. How can I become a trainer for micro.P3.express?

This page explains the requirements and the process:

https://micro.p3.express/training/accreditation/

All OMIMO accreditations are free of charge and only focused on ensuring the minimum level of quality for trainers.

Q11. The compass is quite abstract for me and there are so many behaviours in it. How can you still call it minimalist?

Being minimalist means that it’s focused on the essentials and avoids clutter. It usually creates a set with fewer elements than the non-minimalist system, but the number of elements you’ll end up with depends on the nature of the subject. The Compass mentions about 100 most essential desirable behaviors of leaders from thousands of potential behaviors, and is minimalist in that sense.

Most OMIMO modules are methods, which are more concrete, but some, such as the Compass and NUPP, are models. Models are, as you said, more abstract. But that’s the nature of models. As we’ve seen, some people are more comfortable with methods and some with models, and it seems fair to say that it depends on personal preferences.

Q12. How do I start using P1.express? I have a huge backlog of tasks. Do I need to go through all of them?

It’s best not to limit your task management system to your new tasks and include the old ones as well. You don’t have to do it at once, though. You can start using your task management system and spend an hours or so, importing your old tasks into it every week, until you’re done.

Q13. All modules have cycles. Does it mean that OMIMO expands agility to all levels?

Being Agile means that the product of the project is mainly designed by adaptation rather than upfront prediction. Being adaptive requires you to repeat your development steps for subsets of the product, which means you have to have cycles in product development. Cycles in OMIMO modules, however, are about how you repeat your management activities, which is different from your development activities. Such cyclic management modules can be used in both adaptive (Agile) and predictive context.

In general, OMIMO modules are post-modern and go beyond the “Agile/waterfall wars”.

Q14. Do you have plans for modules on PMO’s in the future?

There has been some ideas about a module that describes a centralized place for standardizing project and program management in larger organizations. If it becomes a new module in OMIMO, you would be able to consider it OMIMO’s interpretation of what a PMO should be.

The said module will not be developed before developing the remaining main modules (P4.express and P2.express).

Q15. Since P3.express is co-funded by the European Commission, does it mean it will be mandatory for public projects in the EU?

OMIMO is an independent, community-based organization. Any organization or authority can decide to use it or to ask its suppliers to use it, but that would be independent of OMIMO and we might not even be aware of it. We also don’t lobby for such things. For the public projects in the EU, we’ve never heard of any plans on making P3.express or any other OMIMO module mandatory.

Q16. Is your P3.express app open source? Can I, for example, adjust it and sell it to the companies I consult for?

OMIMO doesn’t develop any software. There was a third-party app for P1.express showcased at the end of the Forum. If the question is about that, it’s best to check the license of that program and talk to its developer. It’s independent of OMIMO.

Q17. We have an architecture consulting firm with about 20 people and we usually work on about 30 projects per year. would it make sense for us to use P5.express or is it for larger organisations?

The fact that you don’t have too many projects and that your projects are probably done for external customers rather than for yourself, makes your portfolio management relatively simpler. However, you still need structured portfolio management and using a proper one would benefit you. There are some information in P5.express on how it can be used in simpler situations such as yours.

Q18. I combine my email inbox and different to do lists for task management, I can see how P1.express combines the tasks lists, but what about my email inbox?

There’s a large overlap between what many of us have to do in our email boxes and what happens in our task management system and, therefore, keeping them separate would cause some duplicate work. On the other hand, combining them into one structured, managed source of tasks is not easy and probably needs a specialized software. Creating such a software can be a great idea for anyone interested :)

Q19. We’ve been using PMBOK for many years, and a new version of it was published a few days ago. is P3.express compatible with the new version of PMBOK?

PMBOK is designed to be a source of knowledge helpful to any project management method. You should be able to use it alongside P3.express, micro.P3.express, PRINCE2, DSDM, Scrum, or any other method/framework you use for your projects.

Q20. We have a holding of 8 companies, and we are going to start using P5.express. Should we have one P5.express implementation for all companies or should each company has their own?

If those 8 companies have separate decision-making structures with minimum alignement in the level of the holding, and have resources that are never or rarely shared, it’s best to have separate portfolio management systems in each of those.

Q21. We use Jira for our projects, so my tasks are there. If I decide to use P1.express, should I copy them in my P1.express or should I use P1.express for the rest of my tasks?

No, you should not duplicate information. In a healthy setup, the tasks that the project management system gives you should be large enough and you should be allowed to break it down yourself. In that case, the large task will be in Jira, and you’ll break them down in your task management system that uses P1.express or any other method.

Q22. Can I run workshops on P3.express if I’m not yet an accredited trainer?

All OMIMO modules are libre, and you have the freedom to use them, teach them, make your own custom version of them, and do anything else, without asking for permission. Those rights are permanent and cannot be revoked in the future (Creative Commons Attribution).

The only limit is that if you’re not Accredited, you’re not allowed to call yourself an “Accredited P3.express Trainer”. You can, however, call yourself a “P3.express trainer”.

Q23. I’m interested in translating P1.express. How can I do it?

P1.express is still a draft. Please wait for its final version to be released. After that, we’ll have an invitation to call for the community to translate it.

It’s a good idea to subscribe to the announcement emails, so that you won’t miss that: https://omimo.org/subscribe.php

Q24. I want to host a workshop on P5.express, when will the supporting slides be available?

The standard slides for P5.express will be ready by mid-2026.

Q25. I’m considering developing an app for micro.P3.express, is this permitted by OMIMO?

Of course; all OMIMO modules are libre and you have the freedom to use them and build things based on them, and those rights are permanent and cannot be revoked in the future (Creative Commons Attribution).

If the software you write is Open Source, we’d be happy to promote it in the community as well.

Q26. Will there be an exam for P1.express and P5.express? And if so, when?

P1.express probably won’t have a certification program, but the certification program of P5.express will be available by mid-2026.

Q27. You already have a certification for P3.express for individuals, do you have plans for company audits for the project ecosystem?

We have a plan to create a certification program for organizations as well. The certification will be holistic and will audit all levels of management rather than just project management. Naturally, we’ll start working on it only after all the main modules are published.

Q28. How can I implement P3.express in my organisation? What is the easiest way?

P3.express is compatible with the organic way of working in most organizations and, therefore, minimizes the amount of change and the negative reactions that might come with changes. Many project managers use P3.express without asking anyone for permission.

If you’re thinking about an organization-wide implementation, it’s best to start using it in a few smaller projects and gradually expand it to all projects. As mentioned in many resources related to P3.express, don’t tailor it upfront, because that may make the system too complicated. Just start using it as it is, and only tailor it gradually in activity E02 of P3.express. When an adjustment works well in one or a few projects, consider it the default for the future projects.

Q29. Can I organise a group peer review meeting for my company? How do I start?

Sure. The instructions are still draft and not published to the public yet, but you can contact us to get a copy and use them in your company.

Q30. Would the Leader’s Behaviour Compass self-assessment be helpful to PMOs?

There’s no universal definition of what PMOs are and, therefore, we can’t give a universal answer to your question. However, in general, the self-assessment will be primarily designed for individuals who want to be better leaders, and not for someone else to evaluate how good of a leader they are.

Q31. How can I connect with other OMIMO community members in my country?

There are independent user groups in some countries. Other than that, you can find community members on LinkedIn and other social media.

Q32. Are the group peer review meetings intended for the peer review activity in P3.express?

No. The peer review activity in P3.express is done by one peer who’s preferably internal to your company. The group peer review meetings are inspired by that, but they have a different function and won’t replace the peer review activities of any module module.

Q32. Where can I find case studies for P3.express and micro.P3.express?

We’ve started collecting and publishing case studies and you can find them here:
